Vinnie Jones was born in Watford in January 1965, and grew up in the Hertfordshire countryside. After a brief spell with Wealdstone, he was given his chance in League football, signing professional terms for Wimbledon before his trial period was over, immediately making his League debut in November 1986 and scoring the winning goal a week later against Manchester United. He went on to gain an FA Cup winner’s medal in 1988, helping defeat Liverpool in one of the biggest Cup final upsets of all time. The following year, he was transferred to Leeds United for £650,000, helping them to promotion in his only season at the club. In 1990 he moved on to Sheffield United, where he spent another year, and then on to Chelsea. Eventually, for a fee of £700,000 in 1992, he moved back to Wtmbledon, for whom he played around 250 League games. He went on to captain the club, and win nine caps for Wales, captaining the side against Holland. In March 1998 he signed for Queens Park Rangers as player/coach, retiring from the game the next season. His first film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barreto was a huge critical and commercial success. He is now working on his second film, Gone in Sixty Seconds. * ‘One of the best things that has happened over the past year is Vinnie’s autobiography’ Daily Telegraph ‘Genuinely chilling’ Independent For more than a decade, people have regarded Vinnie Jones as little more than the Hardest Man of Soccer. But people have got it wrong. ‘Beneath the brutality there is a love story to rival any in classic literature’ Ian Wooldridge A back-street boy from a broken home, a hod-carrier who became the captain of Wales, a loving husband who has experienced much loneliness and many more tears, the countryman who became a huge film star, Vinnie Jones has never been a one-dimensional character. At last the chance has come for him to tell his story and hit back at his critics. A player like no other, Vinnie's autobiography is like the man himself: open, honest and without fear. ‘Jones talks as he plays, with a forthright intensity that is never less than shudderingly honest’ Daily Mail
