THE VOYAGER'S RETURN takes one of the world’s greatest epics and turns it into a gripping tale of courage and adventure. An old sea-dog leads Odysseus’ grandchildren, adventure by adventure, through the great king’s journey home from Troy. They meet Cyclops, the monster whose single eye burns like fire in the middle of his forehead, and the sorceress Circe as she turns men into grovelling pigs. They feel their grandfather’s torment as he fights to resist the Sirens’ call luring men to their doom, and they face the mighty Poseidon as he whips up a nwhirlpool that drags sailors to a watery grave. The children fill with joy as their own father takes up the tale, telling of how he rescues their beautiful grandmother Penelope, and of the journey’s end at Ithaca where Odysseus and his son come face to face for the first time. Peter Weigall, a London junior school English and drama teacher, brings Homer’s great classic alive in 21 exciting episodes, especially written to he read aloud. Each episode, full of interest and drama, takes around 20 minutes to read, providing marvellous entertainment every day. For children aged 6 to 60 What parents say: "Exciting to listen to. We all want to know what happens next. It's gripping." "Far more presentable than Homer's original. You can go back to being a child and read all the classics again." * Once upon a time STORYTELLING is as old as children. From the earliest days, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, grandparents and friends have set children on the lap and told tales which happened once upon a time. The storyteller is an artist, painting pictures in the mind, leading the child across a canvas which bursts with colour at each turn of the story. For sheer fun for both adult and child, nothing can beat the telling of a thunderously good tale. We at the Good Company for Children Co Ltd are delighted to be playing our part in rekindling the art of storytelling. In the process, our aim is to provide great enjoyment and educational value to all who meet our books. We have tried to make the task of storytelling easier for both reader and listener alike. The books are divided into short episodes, and our hope is that both adult and child will want to carry on with the tale tomorrow. The italicised typeface helps the reader’s eye move more easily to pick up the parts where the storyteller’s voice would change with each character. Of course those with more practice at telling tales will know the value of silence between dramatic movements. Storytelling is basically natural to every mother, father, ‘aunt’ and ‘uncle’. Our reasons for publishing are to provide you with the best of company for yourself and children and, we hope, many hours of family happiness along the way.
