In The Diamond Throne, David Eddings introduced his most imaginative and compelling fantasy setting yet: a land of warring kingdoms, of shifting rivalry between church and state, of extraordinary magic and marvels. The Ruby Knight, second volume of The Elenium, continues the epic story. Ehlana, young Queen of Elenia, clings to life by a thread, preserved within a diamond-like block of crystal conjured by the sorceress Sephrenia with the aid of a dozen Pandion Knights. For a year, the sacrifice of their lives will save hers; but when all twelve Knights have entered the House of the Dead, Ehlana must follow them, unless by then a cure is found. Sparhawk, the Queen s Champion, has discovered that only one magical object is powerful enough to save Ehlana: the Bhelliom, a jewel lost for centuries since its wearer died in battle. And so Sparhawk and his small band of allies must set out to find the Bhelliom. It is a quest which leads them into the most dangerous realms of their world; a quest which carries unique perils of its own. For should the stone fall into the hands of the evil God Azash and his followers, the world will be doomed forever...
