"It's time for Gerald Seymour to be recognized as ranking right up there with Graham Greene." —Herbert Mitgang, New York Times * For his finest book yet—the English critics glowed "marvelous," "the pace is relentless"— Gerald Seymour has returned to the Northern Ireland setting of his internationally acclaimed bestseller Harry's Game. The Journeyman Tailor is a story of fear, loyalty, and betrayal. Few writers have come as close as Gerald Seymour to understanding the implacable, cynical savagery that is the trademark of men and women who will stop at nothing to serve their cause. Gary Brennard is young and keen, just the qualities his MI5 desk chief seeks for an undercover operation. He is short in experience, but he'll be working with Parker, and Cathy Parker is a legend. With Parker as his guide, Brennard will discover the raw danger of covert operations among the mountain villagers of Tyrone. There in the heartland of the Provisional IRA's most expert and active brigade, he will find a community that lives by the code "hear nothing, see nothing, know nothing." The people of the mountain understand that any collaboration with the British invites a death sentence from their own. Yet there is word on the mountain that inside the brigade there is an informer, a "tout," and that the brigade will go to any lengths to find, interrogate, and kill him. The informer belongs to Parker, and must be protected. He is the jewel, the piece to be played when the stakes are high enough. Meanwhile, the innocent are expendable. ** About the Author GERALD SEYMOUR is the author of Condition Black, The Glory Boys, Harry's Game, and other novels. He lives in London.
