Everybody loves a red squirrel, but many see the grey squirrel as the baddie who drove out the reds by chasing and killing them, thereby reducing their numbers. However, as the author explains, things weren’t that simple: numbers of reds declined drastically in Britain between 1900 and 1925, which was well before grey squirrels became established.
