INTRODUCTION Macedonia Timeless is a multimedia, printed and electronic, narrative about the ancient spiritual and cultural horizon that spreads over the Macedonian soil. The creative and original unique originality of the Macedonians, the communication with important epochs and the intermingling of diverse spiritual and cultural processes have made it possible for Macedonia to become one of the essential and most fertile civilised regions in the Balkans, the Mediterranean and Europe in general. The growth of early Christianity started on Macedonian soil, as did the struggle for equality among languages when the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius gave the world the Cyrillic alphabet. As a result of that, St. Clement of Ohrid founded the first school of literature and university in Plaoshnik, above the city of Ohrid, which educated over 4.000 disciples. These activities occurred several ages before the foundation of the first European university of Sorbonne, and subsequently the Macedonian fresco painters created the breathtaking frescos in the church Kurbinovo on the shores of the Prespa Lake, and in the St. Panteleymon monastery in the vicinity of Skopje, which, in fact, foreshadowed the beginning of the Renaissance. Macedonia Timeless presents the readers not only with already known artifacts, but also reveals a number of new discoveries. Although primarily aimed at foreign visitors, it also enriches the national consciousness of Macedonians in relation to their place and role in the cultural history of the region. The textual information and the copious visual contents of this publication express the authentic Macedonian point of view regarding the past and the status of the Macedonians in the Balkans and within contemporary European reality. This multimedia project is based on a methodology for the objective evaluation of Macedonia’s national, cultural, and historical development by presenting original individual and collective works and values created through the centuries on Macedonian soil. Consequently, its multicultural approach in the treatment of both Christian and Islamic sacred values and objects may be regarded as one more extraordinary and precious contributions of our culture to the cultural heritage of Europe as a whole. Macedonia Timeless abides faithfully the fundamental belief that arises out of a genuine concern for Macedonian history and culture; the belief being that Macedonia owes it to Europe and the world to make as accessible as possible the information and knowledge about the unique archaeological artifacts, objects and other valuable items created through the ages and the millennia on its soil. The Neolithic figurine known as “Adam of Govrlevo”, discovered in the vicinity of Skopje, is registered as one of the ten most valuable archaeological findings in the world, while the megalithic observatory of Kokino, near the city of Kumanovo has been ranked one of the topmost four such locations in the world, on account of its size and importance. The terracotta icons from Vinitsa caused a great sensation and aroused awe when exhibited in the major European cultural centres three decades ago. The artifacts excavated and preserved in the ancient city of Stobi offers an original and interesting narrative about the different layers of findings in this ancient site, the values and ways of living in this important city on the banks of the Vardar river in central Macedonia. The abundance of artifacts from Plaoshnik, Heraclea, Stibera, Bargala, Isar Marvintsi and many other archaeological sites bear witness to how compacted, interwoven and amalgamated these various religious, secular and cultural values had been all over the Macedonian soil. This presentation of Macedonia as a focal point of Balkan, Mediterranean and European culture may serve as a counterbalance to the stereotypes that describe it as a country of turmoil and conflict. The foundations of this authentic Macedonian concern is that despite the fact that the Macedonian people lived, unlike other peoples in the Balkans, in the most hostile and cruel circumstances that constantly pushed them towards division, effacement and annihilation, they never lost their identity and individuality. The Macedonian churches and monasteries, their architectural and artistic ingenuity, the organization of the social and spiritual life in the communities around them present a reassuring historical evidence that the Macedonians maintained their individual consciousness from generation to generation on end. The frescos, the icons, the woodcarving and the iconostases created by the renowned original masters Makarie Frchkoski, Dimo Garka, Dicho Zograph and a whole pleiad of their disciples and followers who worked throughout the nineteenth century, display not only their magnificent individual creative output, but also the creative and spiritual capacity and expression of all Macedonian people. The legends, the beliefs and the customs, the songs, the dances, and the popular arts, then the legends about Alexander the Great, Tsar Samuel, Prince Marko have held together many generations of people throughout history. That spirit of freedom and sovereignty eventually triumphed when the Macedonian people and their freedom fighters, as part of the great anti-fascist coalition, managed to liberate the territory of the Republic of Macedonia. In that context the creation of the republic was also part of the new international and legal order established after WWII. The proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Macedonia at the First Meeting of ASNOM (The Anti-fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia) in 1944 has had enormous significance and meaning which definitely changed the geopolitical map of Southeast Europe. The Macedonian statehood was established on the principles of equal democratic and cultural rights of all its citizens, which are fundamental values that rise from the manifestos of the Ilinden Uprising and the proclamation of the Krushevo Republic in 1903 and hence from the constitutional acts of ASNOM that defined Macedonia as an independent state and a сите неізини грагани, што како темел на вредност ги содржат Манифестот на Илинденското востание и прогласуването на Крушевската Република, а во конституционална смисла, особено одлуките на АСНОМ со кои Македонща како држа-ва стана федерална членка на Іугославща. Значаен дел на таа нова визура е поставуван>ето голем 6poj скулптури и други форми на споменично од-бележуван>е на значащи личности од македонската историа. Во поширокото под-a4je на центарот на Скоще, на плоштадите од десната и од левата страна на реката Вардар се издигаат монументалните скулптури на Александар и неговиот татко Филип II. Тука се и спомениците на цар Самоил, Гоце Делчев и Методща Андонов-Ченто, првиот претседател на Република Македонща. Мегу новите архитектонски творби co CBOjoT перфекционизам се издвоуваат Археолошкиот музеі, Музерт на македонската борба за државност и зградите на Македонскиот народен театар и Министерството за надворешни работи. Од пред неколку години Скоще е побогато и со Музей от на холокаустот, четврт од ОБО] тип во светот, и спомен—куката на нобеловката MajKa Тереза. „Macedonia timeless“ претставува автентично сведоштво за два исклучително значащи процеси за македонската исторща и држава. Монументалните споменици на Александар и Филип и вградуван>ето на редица други личности од Античка Македонща, преку споменично одбележуван>е во Скоще и други градови, ja изразува кохерентноста на спомнатото автохтоно македонско гледиште за целината на цивилизациите и културите на историскиот и географскиот простор на Македонща. Посебна вредност на OBoj мултимедщален проект се фотографиите и неговата вкупна визуелизацща.
