Scott Mariani is the author of the bestselling thriller series featuring ex-SAS hero Ben Hope. Scott's books are translated into many languages and have sold millions of copies across the world. The Ben Hope series has been described as 'James Bond meets Jason Bourne, with a historical twist'. The first in the series, THE ALCHEMIST'S SECRET, spent six straight weeks at #1 on Amazon's Kindle chart, and all the others have been Sunday Times bestsellers. The second Ben Hope novel, THE MOZART CONSPIRACY, is soon to be filmed as an 8-part major TV drama series, produced and directed by the talent behind movies like RUSH and THE DARK VALLEY. Scott lives and writes in rural west Wales. Last quarter just didn't cut it for me e.g. assassins who kill everything in sight but tie up the security guards. I don't mind stretching my imagination but it will not stretch to infinity. Could and should have been a more realistic ending. However, each book of the series can stand alone as a great read without knowing the history of Ben Hope. The Shadow Project has the usual twists and turns and finely balances the credible, incredible and believable very well along with some very well written action sequences. I'm surprised there's never been a Ben Hope movie- the stories would lend themselves well to the big screen. Very enjoyable to read, well written with interesting threads. Looking forward to reading the next instalment of adventure for ex-soldier Ben Hope. Would recommend if you like to read authors like Dan Browne & similar genre. However, it is completely different and not in any way related; but it is still a great read. The plot involves the concept of former Nazi investigation into new technologies which they hoped would give them the edge during the second World War. One particular secret has lain dormant for a long time, but is now the focus of interest for a number of people. The plot deals with these as they slowly come together; and the twists in the plot keeps you guessing. All in all, a great story, full of pace and action, but also with some intelligent writing. Certainly well worth downloading and the kind of thing that would be useful for reading whilst on holiday. 3 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuse polly 5.0 out of 5 starsAddicitive, one is never enough 18 April 2015 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase I read the first 'Ben Hope' novel after reading The Sanctuary trilogy, The Moses Sword and Da vinci set etc and have to say I found Ben a little lame and the story a little bland but the style of writing flowed well so I finished it and bought the next one. That was a big improvement and the third soon became one I couldn't put down. I have now read my fifth novel in a row and have No 6 waiting to carry on. The pace and storyline increases with each novel and I am preparing to have my mind blown at a later stage as they keep getting better & better. Having said that, please start at No 1 as it gives you a good insight into Ben. What's not to love when Hope becomes involved in a Nazi plot. As usual there are sections of action, twists, turns and some real surprises. Unfotunately, I can't say too much, as those Mariani fans not up to this book are in for a real surprise. Of course, Hope gets out of more scrapes than any ten men could survive, but that's part of the fun, and keeps the pace rolling along. I can't recommend this series highly enough, they are real page turners, go and enjoy. 3 people found this helpful Helpful Comment Report abuse D FERRIS 5.0 out of 5 starsBen Hope 7 where are you? 31 May 2011 Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase I picked up the first in Scott Mariani Ben Hope series of books based on nothing more than a whim. Unfortunately that was the start of a six book run where you actually have to stop yourself from putting one down and starting the next. The books are a tremendous read for those who like fast paced thrillers with a believeable hero and excellent storylines. I have passed each one on in turn to my daughter who enjoys them just as much, as does the next person in line so we can't all be wrong. This one in the series was no exception but if you are not already aware of Mariani pick up Book 1, The Alchemists Secret and start there as there is a bit of a tenuous thread through the books, if you are disappointed then accept my apologies but I expect you to be ofthe same opinion.Enjoy Helpful Comment Report abuse Mick Stevens 4.0 out of 5 starsInto The Swing 3 September 2018 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase Easy reading, enjoyable reading. As a recent to see if Ben Hope i have read the first five quite quickly, I find them quite relaxing and a pleasure to read. Looking forward to working my way through the series.
