The House of Humor and Satire in Gabrovo is a unique cultural institute with the status of a municipal museum. It was created in 1972. It has been adopted the motto of Radoy Ralin as its own, "The world has survived because it laughs." From 1975 to the present day it is housed in the reconstructed factory of the famous Gabrovo industrialists, brothers Kalpazanovi, is located on the main street of the province town. Between 1979 and 1990, the House bought a rich artistic fund of humorous and satirical works; and conducted (1973), Georgi Kirkov National Literature Contest (1975), Hitar Peter International Literature Contest (1977), International Comedy Film Festival (1981), International Competition of Literature,, Blagolaj (1985); Begins the gradual construction of the Laughter Park (1981); A magazine of humor and satire APROPO published in four languages (1983), catalogs and albums, collections of humorous stories and jokes; The first Experimental satirical Variety Theater in Bulgaria (1985) was opened. Overcoming the staff and financial difficulties accompanying the work of all Bulgarian museums in the 1990s, the Museum managed to modernize its 8,000-square-meter exhibition halls, and to continue to establish itself as the Bulgarian capital of the kingdom of Laughing. The main fund of the House of Humor and Satire consists of over 38,000 works. Every odd year, the Museum organizes an international biennial of humor and satire. It keeps a permanent exhibition and organizes temporary exhibitions with works from its own fund and guest artists. Its publishing activity is also related to humor. The Museum site offers a virtual walk through the halls of the permanent exposition.
