A Murder is Announced is widely regarded as one of the finest and most tightly plotted novels featuring Agatha Christie's famous amateur sleuth, Miss Marple. The story begins in the quiet, gossipy village of Chipping Cleghorn, where residents are astonished to read a bizarre notice in the local newspaper: "A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6.30 p.m." Unable to resist what they assume is an eccentric party game, a crowd of neighbors gathers at the house. But when the clock strikes half-past six, the lights abruptly fail, a masked gunman bursts into the room, and real shots are fired. With one person dead and the inhabitants harboring hidden pasts, the official police investigation hits a wall of deception. It is up to Miss Marple, with her razor-sharp understanding of human nature, to uncover the hidden identities and catch a brilliant, ruthless killer before they strike again.
