Elephants Can Remember stands as one of Agatha Christie's final novels featuring her legendary Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, alongside his recurring partner-in-crime-solving, Ariadne Oliver. The mystery ignites when Mrs. Oliver is cornered at a literary luncheon and badgered about a notorious, decade-old tragedy involving her goddaughter's parents, General and Lady Ravenscroft. Years ago, the couple was discovered dead from bullet wounds atop a scenic cliffside walk, leaving the police baffled over whether it was a bizarre double suicide, or if one spouse had brutally murdered the other. Driven to unearth the truth before the past destroys the young lovers' impending marriage, Poirot and Mrs. Oliver embark on a psychological investigation. Deprived of physical clues or fresh forensic evidence, they must seek out old acquaintances and eccentric family friends-metaphorical "elephants" whose deep memories might still hold the tiny, long-buried truths behind a tragic family secret.
